The best compliment I receive about my work is that I have the capacity to be both tuned in and empathic, as well as straightforward and challenging. This gets at the heart of what I do: I want you to feel safe and comfortable enough to open up and explore the sensitive and vulnerable areas of your life, but I also want to help you grow, change, and heal, which requires hard work and the willingness to push past your fears and perceived comfort zone.
I work from a pragmatic, holistic, and integrative approach. I incorporate dynamic, cognitive, relational, feminist, and mindfulness-based perspectives, depending on your particular concern, preference, and goals. What this means is that I tailor my approach to your needs. I work towards insight-building, and believe that therapy is about more than just “talking about your day,” it’s about slowing down, becoming compassionately curious about yourself; learning to pause, notice, and reflect so that you can experience and think about your life in new, deeper, calmer ways. Increased insight opens up options, which can then open up new behaviors, responses, and ultimately, life paths.
I often bring a couple of key ingredients into our work, including looking at and working from the body-mind connection. This means using breathwork, guided imagery, and relaxation to help you “land” in your body and discover and strengthen it as your safety and your home base. I also tend to incorporate mindfulness meditation, which asks that you slow down and learn to notice the current moment. Lastly, and most importantly, I work from a strength-based perspective, meaning I am not here to judge or find fault in you, but instead to help you look at what is working in your life, what your strengths are and how you have been resilient and courageous in your past. We work to expand and highlight these strengths so that we focus on building the best things in your life, not just repairing the parts that hurt.
Therapy may be long or short-term. It may be solution-focused, or more exploratory in nature. It can take a couple of sessions, or be an ongoing space for exploration and growth. Either way, we will discuss this at the start of our work and together determine the approach that would best meet your needs and goals.
